Gabriel Escinha: "A club like Zorya should compete for the highest places"

The final interview with Luhansk Zorya defender Gabriel Eskinha:

-How much does our final place in the table say about the team's potential and level of play?
-I don't want to say trite words, but I'm sure we could have been better. We had every chance to compete for places in European competitions. To compete for the places where Zorya should be. But we lost points somewhere. We didn't always have enough concentration, especially at the beginning and end of matches. We need to work on this aspect of the game.

- At the start of the championship, you hardly played. You played most of the matches in the second half of the season in the starting lineup. At what point did you feel that the coaching staff began to trust you more?
-It was difficult in the opening rounds of the championship because I didn't play. But Viktor Skrypnyk and other coaches always supported me and talked to me. As a result, the coaching staff believed in me, and I gained confidence in my own abilities. In addition, the team as a whole helps me to progress and grow as a player.

- How did you keep motivated when you didn't get enough playing time?
- Good question. There were times when it was difficult psychologically. But my family was always there to help me, the team supported me, the coaching staff, as I said above.

Sometimes I stayed after training with some teammates, worked on our skills, tried to get better together.

-You've been in Ukraine for a long time. What was the hardest part of adapting to Ukrainian football?
-Of course, it's hard to get used to the war. I wish Ukraine to have peace as soon as possible. The club, the staff, the players - everyone gave me peace of mind. I realized that I was not alone in such a difficult situation.

Many foreigners say that there is a language barrier. I had no language barrier. There are many Balkans in the team, and we helped each other together. In addition, the team at Zorya is great. Everyone treats everyone with respect and is always ready to help. Now I understand almost all the words and am ready to progress further.

- What do you think has changed in the team in the spring?
- We have grown together as a team. In every sense. We have a better understanding of the field, we know what to do. We are more accustomed to each other. Special thanks to the fans who always support us both at home and away.

- What
personal goals do you set for the next season?
- In order to get better, we need to progress. I want to play more often, get in shape. I will do my best to achieve this. Speaking about the team as a whole, of course, our final place in the table is not what it should be. A club like Zorya should compete for the highest places.

- How do you spend your vacation?
- I rarely spend time with my family during the championship. That's why I'm in Croatia with my family at the sea. I plan to stay there almost until the end of my vacation.
