-We had a lot of new players in today’s season opener, but that’s exactly why we signed them—so they could help us. They understand our expectations. Friendly matches just aren’t the same. You have to meet those expectations during the championship as well. That’s the most important thing.
You always want to win the first match. Especially against such a strong opponent.
Obviously, the red card changed the game. But in the end, they didn’t have a player up front or in defense.
We had to be patient, keep pressing, and win. We also needed some creative plays, like on our first goal.
-What did you discuss with the team at halftime?
-I told the team that we were creating chances, that we needed to keep at it, and that we would definitely score. That’s exactly what happened.
-We also have tough opponents ahead of us. How important is this opening win from a psychological standpoint?
-Of course, it’s important. We played well and got the win—that boosts morale and helps us prepare for the next matches.
