Viktor Skrypnyk: "We could be higher in the table if we were more stable"

Zorya Luhansk head coach Viktor Skrypnyk summarized the championship and told about the team's plans for the near future:

-How would you assess the season for Zorya as a whole: is our final place a natural result or could the team have finished higher?

-In my opinion, we could have been higher in the table if we had been more stable. There were matches where we dominated, but could not win. "Kudrivka, Veres, Obolon... Add these points to our table and you will be much higher in the table. Although in the championship now everyone could beat everyone and all teams can complain about the lack of points.

We can only be angry with ourselves. We had some good matches against the giants, where we lost, but showed a good level of football.

In general, for the first season after my return, I can say that the guys showed themselves well.

-What was
the key period of the season for you - in a positive or negative sense?
-In a negative sense, it was the beginning of the second round. We gained good form at the training camp. In the last 10 days of the training camp, we played 4 matches in which we did not concede at all. There was a concentration on the championship, a good lineup. Then the match against Kudrivka, where we dominated for 75 minutes, but in the end, we played 2:2. It was unpleasant psychologically. Then the next match and no victory again. Although in many games we were the favorites on paper.

Then, after a while, there were two defeats in a row against Dynamo and Shakhtar. After that, we gained good form, did not lose. I've already said that it's bad that the championship ended just when we started playing more steadily.

- What do you think the team has improved the most this season, and what remains the main problem?
- There is more aggression. There were good moments when we acted aggressively, pressing the opponent all over the field. We managed to do it. There were also quality matches where we played against the ball. This is a match against Polissia, for example. We played as a second team. This is not our main tactic, not our game, but I told the players that there are teams that play as second stringers and play in the Champions League finals - Atletico, Inter. We were waiting for our own chance and could even beat the team from Zhytomyr.

- What are the main tasks facing Zorya in the offseason?
- We won't have too many people leaving. Someone, of course, will be added. We will conduct a small selection, which, I hope, will strengthen us. We will try to stabilize the team as soon as possible.

- It's a trivial question, but still - what positions does our team need to strengthen the most before the new season?
- We always want to add a quality player to each lineup in order to increase competition. There will be a new goalkeeper, we want to see a defender, a midfielder and a striker. Of course, we want to complete the team earlier so that we have time to play at the training camp, but the transfer window is large, so there is enough time.

- Do you know who we will not see in the team this summer?
- Currently, these are Roman Vantukh, Petar Michin and Mykyta Turbayevsky. All of them have been a great asset to our team. We thank them for their time spent at Zorya. As they say, there are no irreplaceable ones. We will be looking for new, high-quality players.

- What will be the summer training program: where does the team plan to prepare for the new season and how many sparring matches does it plan to play?
- We will hold training camps in Slovenia. We are grateful to the management for this, because we already know Slovenia, we know that there are good conditions, high-quality fields and rivals. We plan to play 6-7 matches.

-
What does the coaching staff plan to focus on during the offseason training - physics, tactics or psychology?
- Wewant to get there as soon as possible. We want to get in shape as soon as possible, to play players in different positions, so that when someone goes out for some reason, we have a quality replacement.

-Will the loan players stay in the team?
-When players are on loan, not everything depends on us. If we decide to keep someone, we will talk to their teams and directly to the players.

-How actively will the U-19 youth be involved in the first team?
-Obviously, someone from our U-19 will go with us to the training camp. It is not yet known how many players it will be. During the season, we often attended their matches, some were involved in training with us. They need more confidence. We'll be watching them.

-Leased
players who joined us in the winter, what can you say about them?
-Everyone shows matches. Everyone has their own qualities and skills. We tried to improve our attacking potential. Bach is a smart player. He acts well on the ball. He is useful when we dominate the field. Jelavic has good technique. He could use a little more courage in decision-making - not to play along, but to solve episodes himself. Verley worked well at the training camp, scored an important goal in the game against Metalist 1925. We also have Fedir Zadorozhny, he also needs to improve.
